Hello amazing community! Our beloved Tara needs us to come together and show her our support during this incredibly difficult time with her health. She shows up day in and day out, working tirelessly for justice and wellness in our communities. Can you join us in showing her some love?

Since the late fall of 2020, Tara has been experiencing alarming complications with vision, balance, memory, and more. Reading, driving and other day-to-day tasks have become increasingly challenging or impossible for her. Having to navigate the time-consuming bureaucracy of our complex healthcare system, she finally received a serious diagnosis this week, compounding the already difficult times we are in. In the coming week, Tara will undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Tara will be taking extended time off from her passionate and dedicated work at The Root Social Justice Center and will need our help and financial support to get through these months of recovery and next steps.  Just as Tara has cared for and nurtured our Root community, it is time for us to nurture her. We know many of you are close with Tara and this may come as a shock to you. We ask that during this time, together, we can hold space for our dear friend, colleague, mentor, sister and allow for the necessary grieving, celebration, connection and healing to take place.

Tara is one of the most loving and generous humans around and if you know her, you have experienced her deep care, wisdom, and joy. We have weathered many storms together and we will stay connected through this one too. <3
